It’s hard to see the Son of God brought to his knees and plenty of people around him but none of them there to help. At this point he must have had a growing sense of isolation. In our picture we see just a few soldiers and representatives of the authorities but in fact there would have been a crowd, either indifferent or enjoying his pain and humiliation. Many of us are self-isolated now but with a network of friends and family. Let’s keep in our prayers today those who have no-one, scared at what they are facing alone, brought to their knees with worry, unable to experience the consolation that Jesus is there with them.
