Veronica wiping the face of suffering Jesus must again take us to the NHS, and particularly the care being given by all the nurses and auxiliary staff. Anyone who is a presence on the ward, and I can remember this from my days as a hospital cleaner many years ago, contributes to the patient’s welfare. It just takes that word or an act of kindness, above people’s ordinary jobs, that staff are so good at, to make people feel not just a task to be dealt with but a human being, that they are not alone. When you are saying the rosary this week, say to Mary, I offer these prayers for someone who has no-one. You may feel alone yourself but it is very comforting to be able to do something for someone else.
