Today’s gospel is the story of Mary Magdalen searching for Jesus’ body after the Resurrection. Although she hears someone there, and even turns round to look at him and ask if he knows where Jesus’ body may have been taken, she cannot recognise Jesus until he calls her by name. Our ability to see with his eyes is in the gift of Jesus. Timothy Radcliffe recently quoted William Blake in his book, ‘Alive in God; “Where others see but dawn coming over the hill, I see the soul of God shouting for joy.’ When we see the gorse in flower, the lambs at play, that can be all that we see, but if we look with God’s eyes, which is his gift to us at baptism when we enter into his life, then we see the glory of God and experience the wonder of God in his Creation.
