2nd April

The moment Jesus meets his mother is one of the most poignant of all the Stations of the Cross. Particularly so as so many of us cannot see our mothers or fathers at this time. So often in the gospels it is the gaze of Jesus that people feel looking directly into their hearts. Here there is a mutual gaze of love. The Son of God who is walking to his death for the sake of the world, and yet simply a son to his mother, who is now experiencing that sword that Simeon said would pierce her heart. Across the world, and here in Kendal, too often parents have to endure the same suffering for all sorts of reasons. Let’s pray for those mourning a child today.
